About Burgun

Burgun is an engineering-led organisation with over 30 years’ experience across mechanical and electrical systems in high-consequence, regulated environments.

The business was formally established in 2010, following more than a decade operating as Burgas, a mechanical and electrical specialist within the gas industry — a sector where governance, competence, and evidential control are non-negotiable.

Those disciplines continue to define how Burgun operates today.

Our roots in the gas industry shaped a core operating principle:

If a system protects people, it must be provably fit for purpose — at all times.

That principle informed our approach to mechanical and electrical systems across multiple sectors, where we consistently worked in environments requiring:

  • clear ownership and accountability
  • auditable records and evidence
  • defined competence and training
  • zero tolerance for assumption

Why Our Focus Changed

By the end of 2024, Burgun had accumulated extensive exposure to Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) and COSHH-controlled environments across complex organisations.

What we observed repeatedly was not a lack of activity, but a lack of governance.

LEV systems were often:

  • technically present but operationally ineffective
  • poorly understood by end users
  • managed through fragmented responsibility
  • supported by documentation that did not evidence control

In many cases, systems met minimum expectations on paper while failing to provide defensible assurance in practice.

For an organisation accustomed to gas-industry standards, this gap was material.

Our Position Today

Burgun now focuses on LEV and exposure-control environments through a governance-led lens.

We apply regulated-industry discipline to:

  • system management and oversight
  • training and competence
  • evidential assurance
  • independent challenge of poor practice

Our role is not to design, install, or maintain systems, but to ensure that exposure control can be demonstrated, governed, and defended at organisational level.

How We Operate

Burgun works with dutyholders, estates teams, and senior H&S leadership in organisations where:

  • risk carries operational and reputational consequence
  • assurance must stand up to scrutiny
  • governance matters as much as hardware

We operate independently of installation and maintenance activity to preserve objectivity and avoid commercial bias.

Our Principle

Exposure control should be governed with the same seriousness as gas safety.

Anything less is not defensible.
